Have you ever had a diaper that you just wanted to snuggle with your face because it was so soft and squishy? The Imagine Newborn Bamboo Fitted was one of those diapers for me! In this review, I’ll walk you through the features of the diaper and how it performed on my new baby girl.
Materials
This diaper is made from a blend of 70% bamboo and 30% cotton. The body of the diaper has 2 layers of this fabric, and the insert has 3 layers.
The legs and back of the diaper are gathered with elastic, which helps keep messes contained and ensures a snug fit.
I appreciated the generous elastic, as it made it much easier to fasten the diaper both tightly AND comfortably!
Inserts
The insert is sewn to the diaper in the back, and attached in the front by hidden snaps. This allows for fast drying time and quick diaper changes (because you don’t have to worry about the insert moving around as you’re dealing with a wiggly baby!)
In all honesty, I completely forgot that the insert could be unsnapped. The diaper still dried quickly because the insert isn’t sewn down completely.
Closures
The diaper comes in your choice of snap closure or hook and loop.
The hook and loop material is strong and durable in order to withstand many washings.
I appreciated that the strip of “loop” material across the front was flexible, which allowed it to lie nicely across my wiggly baby’s tummy as I was securing it. I also liked that there was enough fabric between the “loop” material and the top of the diaper that I never had to worry about the sharp, plastic edge of the strip rubbing across her stomach.
The diaper also has extra large laundry tabs, to ensure that the hooks don’t accidentally attach to anything in the washing machine.
The last thing you want to have to do as you’re dealing with a crying baby and a poopy diaper in the middle of the night is stop what you’re doing so you can make sure the laundry tabs are lined up exactly right. The generously sized tabs made it so that you could clean up quickly without any fear of the diaper snagging or attaching to anything that it wasn’t supposed to.
The snap closure diapers feature an umbilical snap-down, so that the diaper it will fit underneath the umbilical stump as it heals. (Not pictured).
Sizing
This diaper is advertised to fit 5-13 pounds, and features crossover tabs so that you can get a good fit on tiny babies.
This diaper was one of the first ones to fit my little girl at 2 weeks and 7 pounds, but it was also one of the first ones that she grew out of, at 5 weeks and just under 9 pounds. She outgrew the rise of the diaper long before she outgrew the width of it, so short/chunky babies may get more longevity out of this diaper than tall/skinny ones do.
Survey Response
Here is how I would fill out a Padded Tush Stats survey based on how it worked on my daughter. Scores were averaged across the time period that she used the diaper (e.g., a diaper that received a 4 for absorbency at 2 weeks old but only a 2 for absorbency at 6 weeks old would receive an overall score of 3). She is a normal to heavy wetter.
Notes on my responses:
- This diaper seemed very wide compared to the height of the rise (it looked wider than it was tall). The width caused it to appear bulky and made it awkward to get a good fit, particularly as my daughter grew taller. However, the “bulk” is what helped give this diaper great scores for absorbency and use as both a nap and nighttime diaper, so it is a trade-off. If the diaper was narrower between the legs, scores likely would have been higher for “trimness” and “fit” (though it’s POSSIBLE that absorbency scores would be negatively affected by the change).
- My daughter was only able to wear this diaper for 3 weeks. If the diaper had even a single row of rise snaps (to allow it to fit just a tad bit longer) the score for “worth the price” and “would recommend to a friend” would probably have been higher.
4.5 weeks / approximately 8.5 pounds
Price: 13.95
