Kawaii Baby Heavy Duty One Size Cloth Diaper Statistical Review

Carolyn and I were talking lately about what we each thought was the best pocket diaper we’ve tried. Oddly enough, BOTH of us thought that the Kawaii Baby Heavy Duty was our favorite…which is pretty cool since it is very inexpensive. In this post, I am going to discuss the 55 responses to the Kawaii Baby Heavy Duty One Size Cloth Diaper*. Diaper owners rated how the diaper worked on their babies and I will sort their responses based on diaper features and baby type.

Main Findings:

When compared with all other pocket diapers, the Kawaii Baby Heavy Duty diapers performed slightly higher in all categories, but slightly lower in trimness, and higher as a night diaper. The diaper performed very well for all baby types, especially tall and skinny babies.

Diaper Features

This is a one size diaper, which means it is meant to fit the baby from birth to potty training (8-36 pounds).

You adjust the sizing using the 3 rows of snaps in the front of the diaper.

There is a layer of waterproof fabric across the inside on the stomach, to help prevent stomach links (Note from Tara: This is why this is one of my favorite choices for night-time).

This is a pocket diaper, which means there is an opening in the diaper for you to stuff in the absorbent inserts:

The diaper includes 2 microfiber inserts. One is meant to use in the day, the other at night.

The waterproof cover is made of a TPU fabric

The part of the diaper touching the baby’s skin is made out of a stay dry microfleece

The diaper comes with a hook and loop closure that also overlaps, which is likely why this diaper worked so well on skinnier babies. There are also laundry tabs to prevent snagging on other diapers in the wash:

Let’s look at the statistics:

Pros

Durable, easy to stuff, soft against baby’s skin, easy to use, high rise, absorbent

Cons

Bulky, leaks, made in China

18 months, 22 pounds

Comments From Survey Respondents

When stuffing this particular diaper I found this method helpful: Grab the insert at the end, fold like a hotdog in palm of hand, stuff diaper and smooth the insert flat.

The aplix curls up pretty quickly.. and 1 year into using our diapers the elastic on almost all of them needs replaced (they are relaxing more than I’d like) But overall I <3 my Kawaii’s. Now if they’d only make some with double gussets!

For a newborn, these diapers are a bit wide. And they tend to be a little bulky.

While it does fitt better than the normal Kawaii I still don’t seem using this on 35lb baby like it says my daughter is only 25lbs and 2wks away from being 3

I stuff with a Thirsties hemp insert for day time

My diapers fell apart after less than 2 months of normal use. Horrible durability, and horrible customer service. And they leak.

LOVE this diaper, just wish it was made in America.

One of the best (not to mention, least expensive) diapers! Worth every penny. My go-to sleep/nap diaper. An added plus- formula poop comes right off, falls off into the toilet with minimal (if any) dunking/spraying- we always use this diaper at times when we know she will poop!

Great price, comes with 2 super absorbent inserts, soft interior – great diaper!

When I used the included 2 microfiber inserts I added a bamboo/hemp boster to get through the night and breakfast. I have been rotating two diapers for a month and have yet to have leak or stink issues.

BEST NIGHT TIME DIAPER EVER

This is the only diaper I have with velcro closure, which is part of what makes it fit my son so well. Even with the laundry tabs done, the corner of the velcro caught on the outside PUL causing some pilling in one spot. This bugs me. It is still a great diaper for $10 though.

Amazing diaper and amazing price!

This. This is my diaper. My first Kawaii came to me free, and I loved it so much I immediately turned around and ordered more. I’ve never had a blowout in one, never had leakage problems, and it is my go-to for long trips, naps, and nighttime.

My daughter is an EXTREMELY heavy wetter during the night, and I have not had a single leak since we began using these! I love them, so she doesn’t sleep in any other diaper!

Can be bulky if you use more than 1 insert.

This diaper is great for bigger babies!

Kawaii is great for chunkier babies! You can NOT beat the price and I love them! I always recommend Kawaii diaper and have brought them plenty of business!

Very similar to bumGenius, but slightly looser fit.

Night Use:

I double stuff and add a hemp babies diaper doubler at night

I had to use both inserts

For overnights, I swap the purchased microfiber inserts out for a padfolded flat and a HempBabies doubler. The microfiber held on to stink too much for me to use.

I use either both inserts that it came with or one of them plus a large Thirsties hemp insert

Used for night use with the 2 microfiber inserts it comes with and an added [Best Bottoms] hemp insert underneath. No leaks.

Using 2 amp bambo fold inserts (insead of included microfiber) or a amp hemp/no name two layer bambo boster with included mircofiber inserts for night time.

I sutff the Kawaii with an unbleach organic prefold wrapped around a hemp doubler

Thirsties hemp with Kawaii microfiber (sometimes one, sometimes two MF).

Just in the past 2 weeks I have started using 1 hemp babies insert in addition to both microfiber inserts for nighttime. This works great now that he is peeing more.

Price: 6.99

Although the Dearest Diapers and Super Stash provided Kawaii diapers for the review and filming, that does not impact any opinions in this post.

*Kawaii Baby Changes the design of the Heavy Duty frequently, so it is difficult to determine whether all respondents are speaking for the exact same model. However, I have tried several different versions and find them all to work the same.
