After posting about what cloth diapers work best for skinny babies, I had a lot of requests from people to do the same thing for what cloth diapers fit best on chunky babies. Below you will find my list based on the thousands of survey responses received here at Padded Tush Stats. I sorted the data to look at what cloth diapers scored highest in fit for chunky babies and here is what I found:
(Note: I put in here all comments that I could find pertaining to fit)
Pocket Diapers
bumgenius One Size 4.0
Score: 95%
I think it is a great all-around diaper and great for newbies. Very easy to use.
I put difficult to put on because the snaps and the snap-down rise require me to fiddle with it more to get a nice smooth/trim fit on my baby and that is more challenging now that she is so busy. She won’t lay still for changes.
FuzziBunz One Size

I like that these come with extra elastics and two sizes of inserts. The small inserts are very narrow, which makes them easier to fit the narrow crotch of this diaper, but they are more prone to leaks. Also, the narrow crotch makes it harder for me to stuff because I do not have the daintiest hands.
All In Ones
bumGenius Freetime
Score 91%
Not as big as the 4.0 so won’t last as long (he will outgrow it quickly).
Ragababe ‘Easy’ AIO

Score: 100%
Fit is great. Holds in explosive poops and dries pretty quickly for an AIO.
There is an option of an overlap strip if you have a skinnier baby
All in Two Diapers
Flip
Score: 86%
I am still using this on the smallest setting with my 15-16 lbs 6 month old.. there seems to be a lot of room left to grow with.
Great for heavy stuffing because it’s so roomy, but TOO roomy with just the stay dry insert (it moves around/bunches up)
Fit seems bigger than other AI2s. organic insert great for night but is quite bulky.
Softbums Echo
Score: 96%
This diaper fits really well on my skinny 3-year-old (for night-time) and my chunky 17-month-old. We really like it.
Really like it. So easy to use. Learning curve on adjusting to fit though.
The fit takes a couple times to get but after that it’s really easy!
I’ve been happy with these from when our little guys were just over 5lbs to now that they are over 20lbs.
Covers
Econobum
Score: 87%
We used this with flats and it fit really well all the way from newborn up.
Very basic cover, definitely something for the economical factor, instead of convenience, cute, etc. However I have never had a problem with fit or anything and this is my most used cover at night.
Thirsties Duo
Score: 90%
We use a trifolded Osocozy prefold in size 1, and EVERYONE can figure it out. We were able to use size 1 until almost 20 lbs, even though the weight range suggested is up to 15 llbs.
Very generous cut, perhaps too generous.
Same cover works for my 1 year old and my 3 year old
