Holy smokes this has to be on my list of top five cutest prints! I am excited to show you the BRAND NEW GoGreen Champ Generation 3.0 Cloth Diaper, (released August 7th, 2012). In this post, I will show you all of the features of it and, based on responses to the Diaper Features Survey, where people rate how they feel about different cloth diaper features, we will talk about potential strengths of this product.
The diaper has a 4-row snap down rise, allowing you to get a fit on a small baby (6 pounds) or a large one (45 pounds). So, ideally, you could have this diaper from birth to potty training. A whopping 87% of survey respondents like having a one size cloth diaper.
You adjust the sizing by snapping the snaps down to whatever setting that you need (see video).
The inside of the diaper is made out of a stay dry ultra soft microsuede
The diaper has dual-gussets that are made with 3 stay-dry panels, to help prevent leaks. This is a feature liked in cloth diapers by 65% of survey respondents.
The diaper has a new double PUL outer (it feels so sturdy!), which gives you extra waterproof protection.
The diaper is a pocket diaper, which means there is an opening and that is where you stuff in an insert. There are openings at both ends of the diaper, which is great because the insert agitates itself out in the wash, so you don’t have to pull it out. 32% of survey respondents like this in a cloth diaper, although an almost equal percentage (28%) are indifferent to it.
Also, the insert snaps into the diaper, so you don’t have to try and find the insert when you are folding the laundry–you just need to stuff it into the cover.
The pocket openings are much larger than the previous version, making it easier to stuff.
The insert is made out of three layers of premium extra thick microfiber.
Just along the inside of the diaper, where the stomach is, there is a waterproof strip of fabric, which is a great way to prevent leaks (especially for a tummy sleeper). This is especially helpful for when you stuff a cloth diaper at night. When a diaper doesn’t have this strip, sometimes the thick padding you may put in would make the stay dry inside poke out on top and result in wicking. Again, this is a feature that people either really like in a cloth diaper (32%), or are indifferent to (36%)
The diaper has snap closures–and features two rows of rainbow snaps. The two rows allows you to get a customized fit around the legs and waist. For example, if you have a baby with a skinny waist, but chunkier legs, you can have the top row on a smaller setting, but have the bottom row on a larger setting.
The snaps have crossover tabs, which allows you to get a good fit on a tiny waist, it is also great to use when you roll up a messy diaper that you can’t spray out immediately. This is a feature liked in cloth diapers by 75% of survey respondents
The diaper features hip snaps, which helps keep the diaper on the baby and you avoid what is called “wing droop” (see video).
A few add-ons that are possible for you:
* You can get the GoGreen Adapt-a-Snap to turn the diaper into a hook and loop closure diaper (as a hook and loop lover myself, I like this because I get the benefits of my beloved hook and loop, but since snap closured diapers tend to resell a little bit better since they show less wear, I still have the snap option).
* You have the option of purchasing the unbleached bamboo insert, made out of two layers of silky-soft brushed natural bamboo fiber with two hidden layers of microfiber hidden between for a total of 4 layers of absorbency. Not only is bamboo a sustainable fiber, but it has antimicrobial properties and is perfect for sensitive skin. The optional bamboo inserts can be secured outside the Champ G3.0 pocket using the high-strength insert snap and placed between the inner Dual Gussets directly against baby’s skin, giving user the option of upgrading their Champ G3.0 lining to a natural material. When used in this configuration, the bamboo soaker also lets the Champ G3.0 be used as an AI2-style diaper, just simply switch out the bamboo insert when wet and snap in a fresh one, reusing the Champ G3.0 diaper as a waterproof cover with dual gussets leak protection. The bamboo fleece insert is 40% more absorbent than it’s traditional microfiber counterparts.
I am going to be reviewing this diaper over the next several months, so stay tuned for my comments on it!
Price: Prints are $18.95 and solids are $17.95, bamboo inserts sold separately for $4.99
